Case Study: Matrix House and Matrix 1

When businesses move into a new office, they expect the technology to work from day one. Fast, reliable connectivity is no longer a luxury. It is the foundation that supports productivity, collaboration and future growth. That was the challenge facing two prominent office buildings in Llansamlet, Swansea.

Elite Group Wales was appointed to deliver a robust, future-proofed IT infrastructure across Matrix House and Matrix One, ensuring both buildings were ready for modern occupiers from day one.

The brief

Matrix House and Matrix One form part of a well-established commercial hub in Llansamlet, just off Junction 45 of the M4.

The location offers excellent transport links to Swansea city centre and across South Wales, making it attractive to a wide range of tenants.

Matrix House is home to organisations including the NHS Wales Ambulance Service, while Matrix One has long appealed to professional services, call centres, public sector bodies and growing regional businesses.

The project ran from 8 December 2025 to 16 January 2026 and was delivered alongside the lead Mechanical and Electrical contractor, IWEC.

Elite Group Wales worked closely with IWEC and the wider project team to ensure all data, connectivity and AV requirements were met within a tight programme.

Matthew West and Liam Hughes led the works on behalf of Elite Group Wales, bringing extensive experience in structured cabling and commercial IT installations.

Scope of works

The project covered two separate but connected buildings, each with its own technical requirements.

At Matrix House, Elite Group Wales installed a new 42U data cabinet on the third floor, with a dedicated fibre link running down to the ground floor. Additional Cat6A cabling was installed to support new data points, enterprise-grade WiFi and access control systems.

Where possible, existing cabling was carefully reused for floor boxes, helping to reduce waste and keep the project efficient. Several TV pole mounts were also installed to support modern meeting and collaboration spaces.

At Matrix One, the focus was on enhancing and repairing the existing infrastructure. Additional Cat6 cabling was installed for data points, WiFi and access control, while faulty cabling was identified and replaced. As with Matrix House, existing cabling was reused for floor boxes where suitable, and TV pole mounts were installed to support flexible office layouts.

Across both buildings, the scale of the project was significant.

In total, 115 data points were installed using approximately 7 Kilometres of cabling.

Overcoming hidden challenges

One of the biggest challenges emerged early in the project.

Many of the existing outlets across both buildings suffered from multiple connection faults, damaged cabling and mis-numbered ports. This created a risk for incoming tenants, particularly with new carpets due to be laid shortly after the installation phase.

Elite Group Wales carried out extensive pre-testing and fault-finding, testing around 700 outlets in total. This process allowed the team to create a clear and accurate plan, identifying which connections could be reused and which needed replacement before finishes were installed.

By tackling these issues upfront, the team avoided costly rework and ensured a clean, reliable result.

Certified performance you can trust

To guarantee performance and compliance, Elite Group Wales used a Fluke Network Certifier for both copper and fibre testing. This specialist piece of equipment is the gold standard in network certification.

The Fluke certifier tests every cable against industry standards, measuring performance factors such as signal loss, interference and continuity. For fibre connections, it verifies light levels and integrity across the full link. The result is a detailed certification report that proves the network will perform as designed.

For landlords and tenants alike, this provides confidence. It reduces the risk of faults after occupation, supports warranty requirements and ensures the infrastructure is ready for high-demand applications such as cloud services, video conferencing and secure access control.

The result

By the end of the project, Matrix House and Matrix One were equipped with a modern, resilient IT infrastructure designed to support today’s businesses and tomorrow’s growth.

The combination of new Cat6A and Cat6 cabling, fibre connectivity, certified testing and careful reuse of existing assets delivered a cost-effective yet high-quality solution.

For Elite Group Wales, the project showcased the value of detailed planning, technical expertise and close collaboration with contractors. For businesses moving into these offices, it means reliable connectivity from the moment they plug in.

If you are a landlord, developer or business owner in South Wales looking to upgrade your commercial IT infrastructure, Elite Group Wales delivers certified, future-ready solutions that simply work.
